They have some exclusivity now which motivates them to stream and be one of the first to get content out. You are also dealing with people who tend to stream things when they have motivation to do so, and rarely more than one playthrough. The point is that getting eyes on the game this early doesn't do any good. As much as I don't usually like it, I don't mind it. I am aware of the point of streaming early, and the benefits of doing so. So I came to pick up a copy and was disappointed and thought to myself "3 months away! That! I just saw a random streamer playing this in "early access". Nothing kills the hype of the targeted viewers faster than seeing something is still months away. Sending this out to streamers now with an August release date is essentially the devs blowing their load early. They usually only take one look at a game, and have very short attention spans. Showing nearly full gameplay works when it's a few days early, "You could be playing this tomorrow, get ready." Not, "Here's something 3 months away, watch this random guy with 100 viewers enjoy it, you have to wait ages to touch it." Who exactly gets excited about that? Building expectations long before release works, a trickle of info, what ifs, imagine that, etc. Gameplay hype and expectation hype are two very different beasts. The people really interested in the game and have been getting hyped up on the bits and pieces of info released over the past few months, seeing other people play through the game at this point is just frustrating and spoilery.
